Dark Blue - Jack’s Mannequin
I’ve always loved Jack’s Mannequin and this song, but I had no idea there was this level of meaning behind it.
This video is so haunting. At first all the dancing and games looked so fun and I really wanted to join in. But as the days drag on, it becomes more and more clear that it’s just a contest to stay awake and stay alive. This video so ingeniously encapsulates the daily realities of those diagnosed with terminal illnesses. Their lives are consumed with painful treatments and every day is a struggle to stay alive. Ultimately, the initial energy of those young couples and the fun of all the dancing cannot overcome the shutdown of their bodies. We need a cure.
